The back label: ‘This is a classic Bordeaux blend of three quarters Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium bodied and partially aged in oak, it’s easy, fruity and supple enough to drink quite young. A French bistro sort of wine.’
Although it’s a young red, it’s ready to drink now, with attractive, easy fruit and soft, supple tannins. It’s best served with red meats as you’d expect, and goes well with tasty suppers like spaghetti bolognese.
2014 has been widely quoted as a ’miracle’ vintage in Bordeaux. This is because the outlook was quite gloomy after a damp and cool summer but we then had six weeks of lovely sunshine from the last week of August to the first week of October. Our red harvest, which took place in the first half of October, benefitted enormously from the sunshine at the business end of the season.
